We ran another one of our Mumbai Indians tshirt contests on Buzzr’s Facebook fan page this week and the response was fantastic. Combining both likes and comments, the contest winner had over 90 responses to his entry with the runner up close behind.
There was an issue with some participants accusing the winner of using fake ids to win but we took some quick action and everything went off well in the end. Now fans are asking for more contests and different prizes which can only be a good thing!
What’s surprising is that even though the engagement level was so high, the average number of daily signups to our fan page was not significantly larger. We have been contemplating replacing (or atleast augmenting) Facebook advertising with contests as a way to increase Buzzr’s fan page membership but our initial tests show that optimized advertising remains the best way to increase reach on Facebook.
One reason why the contest may not have contributed towards increasing the fan base is that the friends of contest participants were not required to join the page in order to help them win. We will continue to experiment with alternative contest models to increase both engagement and membership on our Facebook Pages.
In other news, the Buzzr fan page will cross 1500 members over this weekend. We’ve also launched another fan page for brands to share tips and tricks to sell to the Indian consumer market.
